'Three times faster' in this scenario could well refer to a combination of a suit's thruster output/acceleration, and the ability of a pilot to set up his suit for an attack run against another target more quickly. There's a point at which an attempt to kick/bounce off a battleship stops being a controlled collision and becomes a destructive one, little more than ramming your target with your suit, but up until you hit that point, you can use a controlled collision to conserve your own momentum (and your propellant, as a bonus) and accelerate directionally in ways that your thrusters wouldn't otherwise allow. A Zaku 'thrusting around in open space' is entirely dependent on its own thrusters for acceleration in any direction, whereas one that 'kicks off' ships - essentially, colliding with them - can maintain a lot of its momentum, the limiting factor here being the physical qualities of the suit's frame (I would guess its legs and lower torso in particular) and how much momentum it can absorb during a collision.

This is something that probably bears having more attention drawn to it.
